A ROAD was closed for over three hours last night after a serious incident between a motorcyclist and a group of cyclists.

Police, paramedics and the air ambulance were called to Accrington Road in Burnley at around 6.30pm following reports of a collision.

The motorcyclist, a 30-year-old man from Accrington, had been riding down the road when the collision took place with the cyclists, who were also on the road.

He was airlifted to the Royal Preston Hospital after suffering a concussion and a broken leg.

One of the cyclists, a 15-year-old boy from Burnley was also injured in the collision, suffering a fractured collar bone.

Police asked motorists to stay away from the area as the incident was dealt with.

A spokesman said: "Due to a serious road traffic collision on Accrington Road Burnley, this road has been closed from the roundabout at Hameldon approach to the junction Rossendale Road to allow emergency services to deal with this."
