A yellow weather warning has been put in place for parts of the county as heavy rains and thunderstorms are forecast to batter Chorley.

The Met Office have released a statement saying that from midnight on Sunday until midnight on Monday, rain and storms could lead to flooding and disruption to travel.

There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater, lightning strikes, hail or strong winds.

There's also a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater causing danger to life.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Where flooding or lightning strikes occur, there is a chance of delays and some cancellations to train and bus services.

"Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures and there is a slight chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost."

Initially the warning had been put in place for 3pm on Sunday, but it's looking like Chorley will avoid the storms until later this evening.

The rain should calm by Tuesday as the worst of the weather will pass to the South East of the country.
