A DRIVER was arrested after crashing a car following a pursuit through Bolton.

GMP Traffic officers spotted the Vauxhall Astra in Smiths Road, Bolton, and pursued the vehicle.

During the chase the driver lost control and crashed into some fencing before becoming wedged between the roadside and a ditch.

Three of the car’s occupants then fled into nearby woodland.

The driver was arrested and remanded in custody after failing a drugs test, police confirmed.

They reported that the Astra had been stolen in a previous burglary.

The officers had been responding to reports of an armed robbery in Farnworth.

In a Tweet, GMP Traffic said: “Report of armed robbery in Farnworth, patrol sights car Smiths Road, Bolton.

“Whilst attempting to make off Astra collides with fencing.

“Three males make off into wooded area and the driver is arrested.

“Found to be stolen from a burglary.

“He also fails drug test and is in custody.”
