WESTHOLME made it back-to-back borough mini tennis titles and will now represent Blackburn with Darwen at the SPAR Lancashire School Games.

Blackburn Northern Tennis Club hosted the Year Three and Four event that included 16s schools from across the borough.

School teams, made up of two boys and two girls, were split into four groups with the top team from each progressing through to the knockout stages.

The four schools to make it through to the semi-finals were Lower Darwen, Longshaw, Westholme and St Paul’s Feniscowles.

In the first semi final Lower Darwen outscored Longshaw before reigning champions Westholme defeated St Paul’s.

The final was an exciting and entertaining affair but Westholme proved a little to strong and they will now go onto the School Games to represent Blackburn with Darwen at South Ribble Tennis Centre next month.

Andrew Mercer, School Games Organiser, said: “I would like to thank Blackburn Northern Tennis Club, the Young Leaders from Pleckgate High school who did a great Job officiating and umpiring and I wish Westholme the best of luck as they represent the borough in the School Games finals.”

Peter Dodding, sales and marketing director at James Hall & Co said: “We are thrilled to be able to continue our support for the SPAR Lancashire School Games and to help to promote healthy, active lifestyles throughout the county alongside our partners Active Lancashire and the Lancashire school games organisers. Last year the games reached over 94,000 Lancashire school children – an amazing achievement and one we can’t wait to repeat in 2019.”
