Colour and sound of carnival returns to the streets

Head down to Prestwich Carnival and take in the colour and sound that is expected to fill the streets.

St Mary’s Park is hosting this year’s event that will take place on June 22 and 23.

For two days, people from Prestwich and the surrounding areas are invited to take part in a great family day out including a fun fair, a variety of stalls, live music and more.

The Herwald Grand Parade will also pass through the streets of Prestwich, setting off rom Rectory Lane at 12noon.

Race the Train

The East Lancashire Railway is hosting a Race the Train event this weekend.

It’s man versus machine as runners set out to beat the steamer from Bury to Rawtenstall.

You can take part yourself or cheer on your favourite runner or engine as they try to beat one another in this fun run.

On Sunday, head down to the East Lancashire Railway and help raise money for a good cause.

The run will take place between 10am and 4pm.

Peel Tower Open Day

Peel Tower will open its doors to visitors on Sunday.

Members of the public can observe wonderful views of the surrounding countryside, seeing as far as Blackpool and Wales.

As well as admiring the views visitors can delve into the history of Peel Tower that was one of two monuments erected in memory of Sir Robert Peel, Prime Minister of Britain between 1841-1846.

Ramsbottom Great Get Together

IF you are looking for a warm-hearted afternoon head down to Nuttall Park in Ramsbottom on Sunday.

The Ramsbottom Get Together will celebrate the village’s fantastic community, featuring a brass band and entertainment for all ages between 1-4pm.

Pianist in concert

A FINAL year music student at the University of Manchester will be the next talent to perform at the beautiful Bury Parish Church.

Jason Taing is currently studying the piano with Andrew Wilde and conducting with Mark Heron and Robert Guy. Prior to university Mr Taing was a scholar at Junior Trinity.

He will perform during a concert at the church today at 12.30pm. Tickets at £5, including a programme, are available on the door.
