LAST Sunday I held the first charity fundraising event of my Mayoral year.

The Council chamber proved to be the perfect venue for Agatha Christie's drama Witness for the Prosecution.

The Mawdesley Players who gave their time to do an extra performance all in aid of The Mayor’s Charities performed to a sell-out audience.

They had the audience spellbound throughout, the complimentary drink in the Mayor’s parlour during the interval only added to the whole experience.

The extra performance was only added with less than 10 days notice but thanks to a supreme effort from the staff in the Mayor’s office, and my fellow councillors it was a resounding success.

May I, through you letters page, say a huge thank you to everyone who came along and supported me on the night, and special thanks to Bolton at Home who sponsored the Evening.

In total, £1,747 was raised on the night, every penny going towards my chosen charities, Bolton Hospice, Fortalice, Bolton Dementia Care, Asian Elders, Bolton Scouts Bibby’s farm and the Bolton Renal Unit.

Cllr Hilary Fairclough

Mayor of Bolton
