RAMSBOTTOM residents will be celebrating the unity of their community when they gather this month to share what they have in common.

Friends and neighbours will join the Great Get Together in Nuttall Park, one of hundreds of events taking place nationwide in honour of Jo Cox, the MP who was murdered in June 2016.

Attractions will include the Haslingden Brass Band, various stalls, a raffle, tombola, henna tattooing and delicious home-made cakes and food from across continents

The Great Get Together has been inspired by Ms Cox’s life and, in particular, her maiden speech in the House of Commons. Then she told her fellow parliamentarians that “we are far more united and have far more in common with each other than things that divide us.”

This year will be the third Ramsbottom Great Get Together organised by local resident and councillor Clare Cummins.

Cllr Cummins said: “The Great Get Together is a chance for people from across the local community to meet, to eat and to share a little of their lives with each other.

“As the previous two events have shown, it’s a fantastic and fun way of showing that, as Jo said, we have so much more in common than divides us.”

It is hoped the raffle will raise funds to buy a public access defibrillator for the Nuttall Road area. Local businesses willing to donate a prize or funds should ring 07894 999938. Ramsbottom’s Great Get Together takes place between 1pm-4pm on Sunday, June 23. Entry is free. For further details visit www.greatgettogether.org
