EDGWORTH won a nail-biting Division 1B clash on home soil, beating Whalley Range by one wicket.

Range batted first and totalled 174-9 with Ejaz Din top scoring on 47. Liam Watkinson took 3-73 for Edgworth, while Umega Chathuranga (2-28) and Josh Fallows (2-47) chipped in with two wickets apiece.

In reply, Christian Smith (50) hit a half-century and Fallows scored 32 as the hosts reached 175-9, Azfar Zeeshan the best bowler for Range with 4-28.

Previous leaders Astley and Tyldesley were replaced at the summit by Heyside after the latter’s seven-wicket win against them.

A&T were all out for 143 with James Loveridge top scoring on 37, Danny Cashin taking 4-21 for the hosts.

Heyside reached 147-3 in reply, Nick Campbell the best scorer with 50, while Matthew Woodford (3-36) took all three wickets for A&T.

In the Premier Division, Egerton lost by 42 runs at Monton.

The hosts, helped by 95 runs from pro Ashar Zaidi, totalled 252-8 – Phil Dickinson (3-56) and Will Halton (3-61) in the wickets for Egerton.

But they could only reach 210-9 in response as Zaidi took 4-58 to help his side to victory.
