Manchester Airport have raised their prices for turn-up car parking by 50p.

As of June 1, vehicles picking up passengers from Manchester Airport will have to pay £4.50 for most short stay parking.

The 50p increase will apply to motorists who are picking up arriving passengers, and those departing who haven’t booked a long stay.

Solomon Muller, owner of Bolton Airport Transfers, makes over 100 trips to the airport a week.

He said: “I have to pass the cost onto my customers and I always explain why I have to do it.

“Some appreciate the reasons why, but some do get angry about it.”

A Manchester Airport spokesman said: “We always recommend departing passengers book their parking in advance online to get the best possible price and car park product.

"This price increase remains competitive, is in line with other UK airports and has not gone up in more than two years.”

Many angry motorists took to Twitter to voice their complaints with the price hike.

Brian Shadwell said: “Manchester airport #Shame on you increasing car park charges for picking up passengers.”

Colin Patterson added: “They keep trying to justify it. The Rock in Bury is an NCP car park and costs £1.70 for 2 hours. £4.50 for 30 mins is unjustifiable! Anywhere, anytime, anyhow.”

Manchester Airport has advised frequent users such as private hire companies to apply for a discount card, and encourages departing passengers to book their parking in advance online, in order to get the best possible price.
