Bury’s finest hour

STEP back in time with the East Lancashire Railway as the popular heritage attraction’s 1940s weekend returns.

Relive Britain’s finest hour with a host of Second World War and Home Front-themed activities at stations along the 12 mile line, including battle re-enactments, live music, military and classic vehicle displays, and a chance to sit in the cockpit and experience the power of a working Spitfire.

The event will take place from 9am to 4pm daily, May 25 to 27, and tickets for steam train rides can be purchased at Bury’s Bolton Street, Ramsbottom, Rawtenstall and Heywood stations.

Go for gold at archery session

CHANNEL your inner Robin Hood and go for a gold at an archery taster session.

The Have A Go At Archery event is ideal for people of all ages and abilities and is £25 per session.

To take part, dart to Giants Seat Scout and Community Campsite, off Ringley Road West in Radcliffe from 2pm to 4pm on May 26.

War of the Roses

RAISE a glass and support your county at a special battle of the breweries.

A unique War of the Roses beer competition is taking place at the Hare and Hounds pub in Ramsbottom, with two brews from either side of the border vying to be crowned by the public.

Lancashire’s Moorhouse’s brewery are the current champions defending their crown from Yorkshire’s Bad Co..

The competition runs until May 27.

Take to the dancefloor

PUT on your dancing shoes for the Big Weekend Dance Night at the Longfield Suite from 7pm on May 26.

This social programme includes lively music for popular sequence, ballroom, Latin, rock n roll and line dancing.
