PUPILS from a Burnley primary school who are taking part in a national social physical activity scheme had a visit from a former England goalkeeper this week.

Children at Barden Primary school, who are running or jogging a mile a day as part of the Daily Mile initiative, got to sprint alongside Rachel Brown-Finnis on Monday, as she attended the school and delivered two assemblies.

Headteacher, Claire Holgate said: "I'm delighted that Rachel Brown-Finnis has come to school to meet the pupils and complete the Daily Mile with them. Rachel has been amazing with all of our pupils and they loved having the time to listen and ask questions about her career. She was a true inspiration."

Mrs Brown-Finnis, who also played for Liverpool and Everton ladies, emphasised the importance of persevering as she discussed the challenges she faced with her career in football.

Hollie Mayhew, 11, said: "Rachel has helped us to believe in ourselves even if we feel different and has inspired me to be happy and follow my dreams."
