New Boys ruthless to top Tier Three

This week they were absolutely ruthless against Bexleyheath Working Man’s Club, who did themselves no favours by turning up with just three players. 

New Boys whitewashed the first set, 5-0 then Serhat Bulbul won a frame for Bexleyheath, which turned out to be their only frame, as New Boys took all of the next nine frames, including four byes. 

It was a fine all round team performance, with Mike Peka, Billy Russell, Alfie Waldren and Michael Barnes all scoring three out of three however, each of them received a bye in their score. 

Royal Oak picked up their first victory of the season to go second in the table, with a victory over Real Hustlers. . 

The first four frames went to Royal Oak, with Georgina Mossom preventing the whitewash for Hustlers. 

Edward Green brought it back to, 4-2 but Danny Whitewood restored Royal Oak’s three frame advantage. 

John Hurd and Bill Mossom won the next two frames to give Hustlers the second set and bring them back to within one frame however, Georgina Mossom couldn’t repeat her first set win and Royal Oak went into the final set, 6-4 up. 

The last set swung one way then the other, but Alex Tyler secured the bonus point for Royal Oak in frame thirteen and Whitewood won the final frame decider, against Georgina Mossom, to make the final score, 2-1 & 9-6 to Royal Oak. 

Tyler and Whitewood both scored two out of two, with their Captain Edward Segrue winning his only frame. 

Crayford A are the only team to end up on maximum points after the opening two matches and they have opened up a two point lead at the top of the SLKPA Tier Two West table. 

This week they faced Eltham Terrace Rack Pack Rovers, who also had maximum points from last week’s matches, which made this week’s, 3-0 & 9-6 triumph for Crayford even more surprising. 

Crayford replace Rack Pack Rovers at the top of the table, with Rack Pack Rovers sinking to fourth. 

Bellegrove A find themselves in second place, after a convincing away victory this week over Academicals, to make it two wins out of two. 

Bellegrove made the perfect start, whitewashing the first set and they went on to take the second set, 4-1 to win the match and secure the bonus point before the final set. 

The last set was much closer, but Bellegrove still ran out, 3-2 victors for an overall, 3-0 & 12-3 triumph. 

It was a wonderful all round team performance, with Jack Taylor, Joe Hills and Stacy Redman all winning two of their three frames, but debutant Rob Hearn and Steve Hughes both finished on unbeaten hat-tricks. 

Rugrats picked up their first win of the season to go third in the table. 

They did the damage in the first set, winning it, 4-1 against Sea the Angles, who had Reece Stewart to thank for preventing the whitewash. 

The next two sets were a lot closer, but luck wasn’t on Sea the Angles’ side, losing them both, 3-2 to give Rugrats the, 3-0 & 10-5 triumph. 

Despite finishing on the losing side, Stewart kept his team’s hopes alive by winning a frame in each set, with Sea the Angles other winners being Angie Hobbs and Donna Mullins. 

In Tier Two East, Just Bellegrove are having the opposite fortune to their neighbours Bellegrove A and have lost their opening two matches. 

This week they played Fox & Hounds, who had won their first match, but had to share the points. 

Fox won the first four frames before Lewis Brind stopped the whitewash for Bellegrove. 

The second set went to a final frame decider, which Fox Captain, Kerry Wyatt won to give her side the set and a, 7-3 lead overall. 

Fox only needed one more frame for the bonus point, but Bellegrove won the first three frames to give them the third set and bring the overall score back to, 7-6 meaning the bonus point was still up for grabs. 

However, Fox took the last two frames to give them the bonus point and the 2-1 & 9-6 triumph. 

There was only one unbeaten player on the night, Fox & Hounds’ Clive Forrest, who won all three of his frames. 

Rose Inn are one place ahead of Fox & Hounds, at the top of the table, and are two points ahead of them, after a comprehensive victory over Rugrats Guardians. 

Each set was won by the same, 4-1 score line giving Rose Inn a, 3-0 & 12-3 victory, with Guardians having Ross Webster, one out of three and Steve King, two out of three to thank for preventing the whitewash in each set. 

Rose Inn were dominant throughout, none more so than Dean Greany-Parr and Leighton Aston, who scored unbeaten hat-tricks and they were supported by Brett Wilson and Neil Mundy who won two out of two and one out of one respectively. 

Two points above Guardians are New Eltham New Stars, who this week beat Duke of Northumberland, 3-0 & 10-5. 

The first set was tied at two all when a battle of the Pearce’s took place in the final frame decider, where New Stars’ Steve beat Duke’s Dave to give his side the set and a, 3-2 lead. 

The second set also went to a final frame decider, but this time Dave Jandu beat Sam Kinsville to give New Stars a two set and, 6-4 lead going into the final set. 

New Stars won the first three frames of the last set to give them maximum points, then the last two frames were shared, making the overall score, 3-0 & 10-5. 

Steve Pearce and Jandu went on to win all three of their frames, as did Steve Heather for Duke, keeping his side in the match. 

The SLKPA Elite League is going to be as hotly contested as last season’s Premier Division, if this week’s results are anything to go by, as only two teams have kept up their unbeaten record after two matches. 

Hotshots remain top despite winning the match, 2-1 in sets but had to share the points with Sharks after they scored more frames, 8-7. 

After losing the first set, 4-1 Hotshots were under the cosh, but Richard Chapman pulled them out of the doldrums with a break and dish in frame six to kickstart the comeback. 

Hotshots went on to win the second set, 3-2 and they took the last set by the same score to win the match however, Sharks did enough to earn the bonus point. 

Chapman turned out to be the inspiration for the victory, after scoring an unbeaten brace. 

Eltham Terrace Club A are in second on the same points as Hotshots, but they didn’t have it all their own way against neighbours, Eltham Terrace Nuthouse. 

The first set went to a final frame decider, which Barry Barham won to give Terrace the lead. 

The second set went one way then the other, with Nuthouse winning the first two frames to go in front, but Terrace took the next two to regain the lead and send the second set into a final frame decider. 

This time Paul Cook beat Barham to tie the match at one set and five frames all, making it all to play for in the last set. 

Dan Foley put Terrace one up but Shane O’Reilly equalised. 

Jack Pople restored Terrace’s lead and Paul Shrimpton gave them the win, before Alex Biggs pulled one back for Nuthouse, making the final score, 2-1 & 8-7 to Terrace. 

Cook and O’Reilly were the top scorers for Nuthouse, winning two of their three frames, but Terrace had two unbeaten players, Shrimpton on two frame wins and Billy Levingbird, who won his only frame. 

Nuthouse are only one place and one point behind their opponents, and they have been joined by Pickwick on five points, despite their loss this week. 

Falconwood got off to a great start by taking the first set, 4-1 against Pickwick, which included a characteristic slow and steady frame from Brett Crawley, eventually manoeuvring himself into a winning position, although he did, literally put team mate, Kev Nankoo to sleep in the process. 

Pickwick rallied round and took the second set, but Lady Luck wasn’t on their side, after going, 2-0 up in the third set they ended up losing it, 3-2 by putting themselves in snookers and a couple of flukes to give Falconwood the 2-1 & 9-6 triumph. 

Luckily for Falconwood, Nankoo woke up to win all three of his frames and watch Crawley’s excellent clearance in his second frame. 

Harry Lear was up against it in the third set, with some of his balls covered by the black, but he managed to get them out and fortunately one dropped in, leaving him to finish the last few off confidently, to give Falconwood the bonus point. 

Along with Nankoo, Pickwick’s Paul Slater also finished on an unbeaten hat-trick. 

The Bull Tavern’s poor reintroduction to the league continued, as they lost their second game in a row to stay bottom of the table however, they did pick up two points this week. 

Foxy Meatballs won the first and last sets, 3-2 to win the match but the Bull took the second set, 4-1 to earn the bonus point, with the overall score, 2-1 to Foxy Meatballs in sets but, 8-7 to the Bull in frames. 

Foxy Meatballs are two places above their opponents, despite being on the same points.
