A MURDER investigation has been launched after a man died in Rochdale.

Police were called to reports of an ongoing fight in Berwick Street shortly before 9pm last night.

A man, who is believed to be in his 20s, was taken to hospital, where he later died.

Officers attended the incident and arrested a 25-year-old woman in connection with the investigation.

Police have asked anyone with information to come forward "as a matter of urgency."

Det Supt Howard Millington said: "We are keeping an open mind as to the circumstances around the incident and I would appeal for anyone with any information or anyone who witnessed the incident that took place to contact us as a matter of urgency.

“I would also like to reassure people in the local area that I don’t believe this was a random incident and there will be an increased police presence in the area, along with detectives who will ensure a thorough investigation takes place to get to the bottom of this tragic incident.

“My thoughts are with family and friends of the young man involved at this difficult time.”
