A town centre pub that was once home to one of Blackburn’s newspapers has reopened after undergoing a £150,000 revamp.

The Blackburn Times, which is opposite King George’s Hall and was the former home of the 19th century newspaper of the same name, closed in April so work could be carried out on improving the bar area, the menu and the toilets.

Landlady, Leanne Morrison, said the decision came after comments from regulars about the pub’s facilities.

However, on May 10, the pub was reopened and now boasts an extensive gin and cocktail menu, new seating and brand new toilets.

Mrs Morrison said: "We opened May 10 and it was a fantastic opening. We got lots off support from all the regular customers and also noticed some new faces.

"The toilets have had the biggest positive feedback. Also the disabled lift and singing booth have gone down well.

"We had some nice feedback about the deco, and customers have said they feel more relaxed and also love the new gins and cocktails.

"We have also decided to stay open an extra hour so from Sunday to Thursday we will be open from 9am till 11pm, and 9am until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays."

Mrs Morrison said the reopening has been so successful that they will be holding a ladies charity night on Thursday June 27 at 8pm, with all money from the entry fee, which is £2, going to charity.
