A MUM who thought she was destined to struggle with her waistline for the rest of her life has managed to lose half of her body weight.

Kath Rimmer, who used to have difficulties getting up off the floor or pushing her son’s pram for any more than a few minutes, lost a whopping 11 stone in just under two years after joining Slimming World, after starting at 22 stone.

The mum-of-two from Clitheroe has swapped pies, chips and crisps for healthier options such as vegetables, homemade bolognese and goes out walking several miles a day.

The 48-year-old is is now gearing up to take the lead as one of the group’s newest consultants, so she can use her experience to help others.

She said: “Like a lot of slimmers, I had tried to lose weight so many times before by following numerous diets but they were never sustainable because I’d always get tired of restricting what I ate.

“I used to go out and do the shopping and buy a bag of pies to eat on the way home.

“I could easily eat a big bag of Kettle chips and other heavy foods.

“But through Slimming World that has all changed.

“I eat lots of veg, I use Fry-Light to cook foods in which is low calorie.

“I put lots of veg in everything and my three-year-old son loves it.”

Ms Rimmer, will begin her new career as a consultant at the end of the month, with sessions being help on a weekly basis at Clitheroe Rugby Club.

She said: “After having my second child late in life I realised that I would have to do something about my weight just to keep up with him and be the best mum I could be.

“My knees and hips ached getting up and down off the floor with my son and I soon got out of breath pushing his pram, so relied more and more on the car.

“My confidence was at an all time low and I thought I was destined to struggle with my weight for the rest of my life, but when I came to Slimming World it was different.”

Ms Rimmer now walks around six miles a day and has taken up a challenge of walking more than 1,000 miles in a year and is on target to beat that number.

Kath said: “It all starts with feeling that you’re not alone.

“I couldn’t have lost 11 stone without the weekly help, encouragement and understanding of my own consultant and group.

“As someone who has lost weight myself I know the challenges people can face, which is why, along with the group, I will be there to support every one of my members all the way to their chosen target weight.”

Beverley Hibbert, who runs Slimming World’s Longridge group, said Kath was the perfect role-model for taking on the new role.

She said: “With her kind and warm personality and great sense of humour I just know that she’ll be an amazing support to members.”
