LOSTOCK AC's Andrew Morley headed to Llanberis for the Ultra Trail Snowdonia 50-mile mountain marathon and came away with a creditable 34th place out of 140 starters.

A recent but instant classic addition to the UK's ultra-marathon circuit, the race starts and finishes in Llanberis and climbs 5,100 metres over its 50 miles, encompassing two ascents of Snowdon as well as the pinnacles of Myndd – Mawr and summit of Y Lliwedd.

Morley was able to sustain a punishing pace that saw him as one of 124 finishers in a field containing some of the UK and Europe's finest ultra runners in a time of 16hrs 41mins 36secs.

Closer to home, 11 Lostock green vests headed to Preston for the Blacksticks Blue 10k.

James Jackson was the first Lostocker home over the steep 10k in a time of 42:54, followed by Stuart Hatton in 44:45 and Mark Shuttleworth in 45:44.

Other results: Ian Taylor 47:31, Gareth Pratt 48:25, Andy Laycock 49:23, Andy Ginty 49:40, Tony Maxwell 54:51.

Sheila Garewal was the first Lostock woman home in a time of 58:52, followed by Karen Taylor in 58:17 and Emma Hatton in 61:22.

The Chorley 10k also saw the welcome return to competitive running for Kathryn Jackson after a prolonged enforced lay-off, finishing in a time of 1:10:51.
