POLICE have reopened the M62 in both directions following two incidents this morning.

However one lane remained closed and the traffic is expected to take some time to clear.

Police shut the motorway between Junction 23 near Huddersfield, and Junction 22 for Ripponden, Saddleworth and Sowerby Bridge earlier this morning.

The closure caused tailbacks up to Junction 25 for Brighouse and Dewsbury, and westbound and Junction 21 eastbound for Milnrow and Shaw.

The A640 Huddersfield Road through Saddleworth was gridlocked at lunchtime today.

Traffic was also affected by an earlier crash involving a motorbike and a car, which occurred on the eastbound carriageway at Junction 10 (Croft Interchange).

One of three lanes remained closed until 7.15am today but all lanes have since been reopened.

At about 5.30am Highways England tweeted: "M62 eastbound #J22 to #J24 (#Saddleworth) is in the process of being CLOSED due to a police incident. All traffic on the eastbound will be brought off at #J22. Follow @HighwaysNEAST for further updates."

Bus services are also affected by the incidents.

First Manchester tweeted this morning: "SERVICE DISRUPTION. Due to the closure of M62 Junction 22 - 24 in both directions delays are expected. The services that may be affected are the 180, 184, 350, 83, 58 & 59. We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption this may cause to your commute."
