A MOTHER who caught MRSA from her baby has now been admitted to hospital after her condition worsened.

First-time mum Jenna Hodgkiss, 20, was infected after an outbreak of the superbug in the Royal Blackburn Hospital.

Four-week-old Kian had become infected with the aggressive PVL-strain of MRSA and he passed the bug onto his mother during breast-feeding.

After developing an abscess it was hoped that she could overcome MRSA at home but now, after a series of other abscesses developed, she has now been taken for in-patient care.

And partner Wayne Jenkinson is also infected with MRSA after it was found around his legs and groin.

Jenna is now awaiting tests to discover how much the superbug has spread.

However, the superbug has not made its way into the bloodstream, where it can be potentially deadly.

Ms Hodgkiss, of Marlborough Road, Accrington, said: "It is a complete nightmare.

"I just want to be at home with my baby.

"I am now in hospital which is exactly the place where the bug came from. I wish I wasn't here."

A row erupted last week after it was revealed that the hospital did not admit that there had been an MRSA outbreak in the neo natal intensive care unit for a month.

The unit remains closed to new admissions.

Mrs Rineke Schram, medical director for East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust, reassured the public that no patients had MRSA in their blood stream.
