A CAMPAIGN to look after the well-being of teachers has been launched in Bury with the distribution of comfort packs and information posters in schools.

Teachers' Union NASUWT is raising the profile of health and wellbeing by helping to focus members minds on looking after themselves.

Cloakroom packs are being provided to school containing items "for comfort" for female staff as well as information posters.

A pack was recently presented to St John's with St Mark's CE Primary School in Bury.

A spokesman for the Bury-branch of the NASUWT said: "When employers care about the well-being of their employees, this can result in a healthy and happy workforce.

"Teaching can be a very stressful profession, especially at a time where teachers are working longer hours in both a physically and mentally draining profession.

"NASUWT supports members at all stages of their career and provide a support network for teachers to assist them at work.

"This is done in a number of ways, campaigning to reduce the needless paperwork that is often imposed, campaigning for adequate resourcing and training, the basic tools for doing the job, and offering network opportunities to share their skills and expertise with colleagues.

"It is widely acknowledged that there is a recruitment and retention crisis in teaching and the impact of political interference in education is having a detrimental effect on the education of our young people.

"All teachers enter the profession to give our young people good life chances and are caring and committed to pupils. NASUWT in Bury have launched a campaign in Bury schools to raise the profile of wellbeing."
