A RESIDENT has been rescued from a house fire.

Firefighters from Padiham and Burnley stations were called to the incident in Victoria Road, Padiham, at around 3.20pm on Thursday.

The resident, a woman in her fifties, was treated by paramedics.

A neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: "The fire service were here for a couple of hours.

"It wasn't a major fire but there was a lot of smoke.

"I didn't see the lady come out of the house so I think she was ok.

"It's not the first time the fire service have been called out here though, I think the lady keeps leaving the cooker on and then falling asleep."

A fire service spokesman said: "Two fire engines from Padiham and Burnley attended a domestic property fire on Victoria Road in Padiham.

"Firefighters rescued one casualty who was treated by paramedics, and used one hose reel to extinguish the fire."
