FAST acting fire crews managed to prevent a large grass fire from engulfing an industrial estate in Radcliffe.
Crews were called to the fire in Eton Hill Road, off Bury Road, at around 3.50pm.
It is believed the fire was started deliberately and at its height the flames were spread over an area 100 metres square.
Crews battled the blaze for over an hour and 20 minutes and prevented the fire from spreading to the neighbouring Eton Business Park.
Following the blaze, Whitefield fire station crew manager James Cheverton sought to reiterate warning about the dangers of open flames and fires on dry grass land during the hot weather.
He said: "People are aware of the dangers with dry grass and flames and the danger of the fire spreading in the case was significant, and it could have spread to the industrial estate."
