A TEENAGE boy who suffered serious injuries after being stabbed is said to be in a "stable condition" in hospital.

The 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital after emergency services were called to Harrowby Street in Farnworth just before midnight on Friday.

A 54-year-old man, who was arrested on suspicion of section 18 assault, has been released under investigation.

A police spokesman said: "Emergency services attended and the 16-year-old boy was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remains there in a stable condition.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information should contact police on 0161 856 2161, quoting incident number 2747 of 12/04/19.

"Reports can also be made anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."

Police said on Saturday they believed the stabbing was an "isolated incident" but would be stepping up patrols in the area.
