A 12-YEAR-OLD boy has been rushed to hospital after a collision with a car being pursued by police.

The incident happened at Stand Lane, Radcliffe at 2.20pm on Monday.

Police were alerted to a grey Ford Fiesta that was driving erratically from a petrol station on Bury Road.

They attempted to safely stop the vehicle but the driver tried to evade them.

Shortly after the pursuit was initiated the Ford Fiesta collided with a 12-year-old cyclist.

The boy has been taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

A spokesman for Greater Manchester Police said: "A 22-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of making off without payment for fuel, dangerous driving and failing to stop following a collision."

Chief Inspector Phil Spurgeon, of GMP’s Bury district, said: “We are extremely thankful that the boy’s condition is not believed to be life threatening and our thoughts are very much with him as he recovers with his family.

“This being said, this incident could’ve easily been much worse and I cannot stress enough the risks of dangerous driving.

“Whilst our enquiries are in their early stages, I would urge anyone who thinks they can assist us to please get in touch. Did you see the grey Ford Fiesta prior to the collision perhaps?”
