GOVERNMENT funding has been secured to improve accessibility to Daisy Hill railway station.
Access for All funding has been allocated to 73 stations up and down the country including Daisy Hill in Westhoughton.
The work will improve access to the station and platforms for people in wheelchairs, parents with prams or those with heavy luggage.
Cllr David Chadwick, cabinet member for transport on Bolton Council said on Facebook: "Following a long campaign with Councillor Linda Thomas and Andy Burnham , Mayor of Greater Manchester, I’m pleased to announce that Daisy Hill station has been selected for access for all funding from the government.
"This station is one of only two stations in the North West to receive the funding, so I’m especially proud that all our hard work has paid off.
"The work is due to begin within the next financial year, which should improve travelling, especially for those in wheelchairs and parents with pushchairs."
There should not be any disruption to the train service.
