Detectives said chemicals and equipment were found at the unit in Wiseman Street at 10.05am on Wednesday. No arrests have been made.

Stan Rickard who was working in one of the units nearby, said: "I saw the CSI van parked over in the car park earlier today but I didn't see anyone get out.

"There were a few police cars just driving up and down the street and around the area too.

"I've no idea what's happened but as far as I know all those units are occupied so I can't see how anything could've happened in any of them."

Jonathan Sheriff who owns The Games Workshop on the corner of Wiseman Street and Westgate said: "I've no idea about it but if it is true and they have been making drugs in there then it's quite shocking.

"I would never have thought anything like that would have been going on around here as there's not usually any problems or any anti-social behaviour, and I've never seen anything out of the ordinary going on, certainly nothing that would indicate that there was drug manufacturing happening."

One resident of Westgate, who did not wish to be named, said: "I've not seen anything as I work during the day but if there is a drugs lab over there then it's very bad.

"I work in security and I have to handle people with drugs, but this is no good.

"I am shocked. There seems to be drugs everywhere at the moment, and if there's bad people around then you have to be careful don't you."

A police spokesman said: "Officers found chemicals and equipment believed to be used in the production of drugs. Analysis of the chemicals we have found is on-going but we do not believe there is any danger to the public. Enquiries are ongoing."
