LEIGH Cricket Club intend marking their 125th anniversary in style hosting a match against an England Masters XI as part of their celebrations.

ECB premier league champions in 2016, the Beech Walk club opens its Liverpool & District cricket competition campaign with a home game against Wallasey on Saturday, April 20.

Before then-on Friday (April 5) at 6pm the club’s junior training starts for kids from five to 13 years old. Leigh welcome anyone who fancies giving cricket a go.

Away from attempts to regain the title one of the highlights of the year is set to take place on Sunday, June 9 with a visit from the Professional Cricketers’ Association (PCA) England Masters.

The PCA Masters’ team contains many former England cricketers including Mark Ramprakash- a Strictly Come Dancing legend too- Darren Gough, Dominic Cork, Warren Hegg, Matthew Hoggard and many others.

Plans are being put into place for four Under 9s games with coaching from the PCA, followed by a T20 game against a Leigh 1st XI.

Corporate packages are available and information will be shared soon. For tickets and hospitality contact events@leighcc.org or website.

This won’t be the first time there an international side has played at Leigh as games against West Indies XI’s were held in 1951, 52 and 53 and attracted large crowds to Beech Walk to see world class players.
