THE latest set of votes on possible options to break the Brexit deadlock once again split East Lancashire MPs.

Last night's ballots in the House of Commons failed to gain a majority for any of the four alternatives to Theresa May's deal which has been defeated three times in Parliamentary votes.

Today the Prime Minister convened a five-hour cabinet meeting to try and find a way to break the deadlock and agree a deal acceptable to her ministers, backbenchers and the European Union.

EU chief negotiator Michel Barnier warned a 'No Deal' Brexit was becoming more likely.

On the first option put before the Commons, leaving the EU but staying in a customs union, East Lancashire's three Labour MPs Julie Cooper (Burnley), Kate Hollern (Blackburn) and Graham Jones (Hyndburn) voted in favour.

Its three Conservative MPs Jake Berry (Rossendale and Darwen). Nigel Evans (Ribble Valley) and Andrew Stephenson (Pendle) voted against.

On the second, to leave but stay in a customs union and the EU single market, Mrs Cooper and Mrs Hollern voted for but Mr Jones did not vote. Mr Berry, Mr Evans and Mr Stephenson all voted against.

On the third option demanding a second referendum before any Brexit deal went ahead, Mrs Hollern and Mr Jones voted in favour. Mr Berry, Mr Evans and Mr Stephenson all voted against. Mrs Cooper did not vote.

On the fourth option requiring Parliament to have a final vote on either leaving without a deal or cancelling Brexit none of the six MPs voted in favour.

Mr Berry, Mr Evans and Mr Stephenson voted against while Mrs Cooper, Mrs Hollern and Mr Jones did not vote.
