MORE than 20 Bolton restaurants, pubs and hotels are in need of major improvement.
22 of the borough's establishments have received a rating of one by the Food Standards Agency
The food hygiene rating scheme is designed to help shoppers decide where to eat out or buy food.
The rating gives customers an idea of how well the business is keeping the takeaway clean and tidy.
A food hygiene rating is worked out by a food safety officer who visits the business to see if it meets the requirements of food hygiene law.
The officer looks at how hygienically the food is handled, the condition of the structure of the buildings and how the business manages what it does to make sure food is safe.
