BACK by popular demand, genealogy tutor Jackie Depelle will return to Bolton Family History Society to give visitors an insight into nonconformist studies.

In English church history, a nonconformist was a protestant who did not “conform” to the governance of the established Church of England.

A family historian’s first port of call for researching this subject prior to 1837 is usually the baptism, marriage and burial entries in the Church of England’s parish registers.

However, those who did not conform to the church established by Henry VIII are often missing from these records.

Visiting speaker Ms Depelle, who is the chairwoman of the Yorkshire Group of Family History Societies, will provide the audience with a few alternative methods to find out about their ancestors. More than 100 people attended her last session.

Bolton FHS will host the next talk on April 3, at their usual venue — the Montserrat Room on the first floor of the Old Links Golf Club, in Chorley Old Road. Doors open at 6.45pm with tea and coffee served from 7pm. The talk starts at 7.30pm.
