MEET one of Bolton's youngest music prodigies.

Ten-year-old Cameron Tate has blown away his family and music teachers with his incredible talent and exam results.

The youngster recently astounded examiners when took his Grade 8, earning a distinction with a score of 91 per cent.

The grading is the highest exam a muscian can take and is regarded as a teaching level qualification, not usually taken until a musician is much older.

Cameron first started playing drums as a toddler after seeing his dad Pete practicing with his band.

After picking up some sticks Cameron took to the instrument in no time ­— and he is also a dab hand and bass and guitar, and self taught on piano.

From a young age Cameron has been enjoying drum lessons at Booths Music shop in Churchgate, Bolton, under teacher Alex Langford-Taylor who, alongside her colleagues, has worked tirelessly to help Cameron achieve his goal.  

Cameron says he is inspired to by his favourite drummers and musicians in his top bands, including Foo Fighters, Nirvana and Rush.

However he has been making waves with his own band Conixi ­— Latin for pulling together ­— who have played at the Bolton Food and Drink Festival and Christmas Lights Switch-on in recent months.

Cameron's dad, Pete Tate, said he was proud of his son's achievements, adding: "Cameron lives for music and he takes to any instrument he plays.

"He spends most of his evenings playing something and he blows me away, he's in a different league.

"There's a lot of professional musicians who don't even come close."
