A 17-year-old school-girl has become a self-published author with her debut novel about the music industry.

Victoria Atkin, who studies at Alder Grange Sixth Form in Rawtenstall released The Stone Effect – a story about an American rock band and a blogger who flies out to New York to meet them, on February 11.

The Year 12 English Literature student based the book on her experiences of being a fan of American band The Killers.

Miss Atkin, from Bacup, said: "This is a story for anyone who has ever been a dreamer.

"I’ve been writing full books for the past five years and I’m planning a sequel to this story already.

"I’ve always wanted to be an author and self-publishing my first novel is one step closer to that becoming a reality."

Miss Atkin even visited BBC Radio Lancashire on World Book Day, to talk about the book, before signing copies back at her school for fellow students and staff.

Learning mentor at Alder Grange Sixth Form, Pauline McDonald, said: "We hope that having her own story published will encourage Victoria to keep on going.

"Hosting a book signing was incredibly exciting for our students, both here and in the main school, and Victoria is a shining example of what you can achieve if you are passionate and hardworking."

The Stone Effect is available to buy on Amazon.
