AMBULANCE staff will be supported in struggles with mental health.

The North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) will work with the ‘Blue Light Programme’ and mental health charity MIND. The scheme has led to a huge increase in the number of ‘Blue Light Champions’ in post.

These Champions are existing members of staff who offer one to one support for any mental health concerns staff may have, whether that be due to attending a particularly traumatic incident, or an issue which may be happening at home. In 2016 there were just four champions, today there are almost 100 across the organisation.

Chairman, Peter White, who signed the pledge on behalf the trust board said: “I am delighted that we’re playing a part in not only trying to reduce the stigma associated with mental health, but ensuring there is vital support available to all our staff.

“The board have a responsibility to ensure this support continues and I would like to thank all the staff involved for their hard work and dedication.”
