A MAN was caught on CCTV with a slab of concrete in his hand seconds before a house window was smashed.

Blackburn magistrates heard Sammy Lee Chew had no memory of the incident or any explanation but accepted he was responsible.

Chew, 30, of Accrington Road, Burnley, pleaded guilty to criminal damage to a window on August 12.

He was given a conditional discharge for six months and ordered to pay £264 compensation, £85 costs and a £20 victim surcharge.

Tracy Yates, prosecuting, said the householder was sitting in her living room with some friends when they heard a loud bang.

They looked out and saw two men and a woman across the road at a bus stop in Rose Grove Lane, Burnley.

They realised a rear window had been smashed and CCTV showed two men and a woman in the rear yard.

One of the men had a slab of concrete in his hand.

"The defendant was identified as that man," said Mrs Yates. "The aggrieved had to pay £204 to have the house secured that night and £60 to replace the window."
