Lord Street Kearsley protest
THE late Councillor Terry Lewis (later an MP) is pictured with residents of Lord Street and High Stile Street in Kearsley in August, 1979.
The community was protesting against big lorries using their streets as a short cut.
The two streets, as well as Mather Street and Church Street, were once quiet, claimed the householders. They collected a petition to have lorries banned from the routes.
