THESE shocking images from our archive show just how little respect vandals had for their town.

It is unthinkable now in 2019 that someone would daub such despicable graffiti on Blackburn's Queen Victoria statue.

But these images from the Lancashire Telegraph show the numerous times the monument was attacked.

One picture even shows two youngsters walking past looking at the statue with a swastika and 'K.K.K.' emblazoned on the masonry work.

Our pictures also show the efforts the local authority had to go to just to clean the statue.

Not all of the changes to the statue were so bad.

One Rovers fan celebrating his team's success managed to place a blue and white cap on top of the Queen's head – at the time, the Telegraph reported that 'she was not amused'.
