FOLLOWING critical feedback after falling sales a town centre eatery is relaunching.

Hugo’s Mexican Bar and Eatery in Northgate, Blackburn, suffered a worse-than-expected end to 2018, so boss David Wilcock took to social media to ask customers how they could alter their service so they could carry on trading.

Mr Wilcock told the Lancashire Telegraph that if sales did not improve they would not be able to stay open past March.

He said: “If Hugo’s closed it would be another blow to the high street at a time when independent businesses are closing as they fail to keep up with the competition of online trade.

“We don’t want the high street to fail. Blackburn needs a new lease of life and we want to be part of that, we want to be there to help make Blackburn better.”

Following the request for feedback, Mr Wilcock said Hugo’s saw a huge spike in interest which led to increased sales.

He said: “We have taken on board all the feedback offered from customers and are happy to report we will be making some substantial changes.”

The changes include a massive relaunch on January 25, when a new light-up sign will be installed on the shop front to ensure people know they are there.

They are also making a push to cater for gluten-free, vegan and halal diets and will ensure that halal-certified meats are used to cater for such requirements.

Mr Wilcock added: “We’ve created a new cheaper drinks menu and will be focusing on low prices for lunchtime specials, starting from just £2. Kids will also be able to eat for free before 5pm on Sundays.”

With promotions on offer throughout the week to students, shoppers and visitors, and a Just Eat launch planned, Mr Wilcock is hoping Hugo’s will remain in the town centre.

He said: “Our hopes for 2019 are that the council comes good on the development of Northgate which is due to startthis month, and that the area continues to grow with us a part of it.”
