A MOTORIST sustained serious injuries after a collision on a major road.
The incident occurred just after 6pm last night on Ringley Road (A667), close to Stand Golf Course, between Whitefield and Stoneclough.
The casualty was driving a VW Polo, which was involved in a collision with a Range Rover.
Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a large number of police cars and that the road was closed for a period, with cars being directed towards diversions.
The incident caused a build-up of traffic both ways, with cars queuing towards the scene.
A GMP spokesman said: "We were called just after 6pm to reports of a collision involving a Range Rover and a VW Polo.
"The driver of the Polo was taken to hospital with serious injuries and remains there for treatment."
