A MAN has been fined £500 for fly-tipping in a back street behind his home.
Mark Lewington, aged 45, was living in Price Street, in Bury, when council officers investigated a complaint about rubbish dumped in the alley between the street and Alfred Street last February.
They discovered correspondence relating to Mr Lewington within the waste, and he was issued with a fixed penalty of £75 for littering.
After failing to pay, he was prosecuted at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court last month.
He was found guilty in his absence and fined £220 and ordered to pay costs of £280.
Councillor Judith Kelly, cabinet member for corporate affairs and HR, said: “Litter blights our streets and parks and costs local taxpayers money which could be better spent on much-needed services. The location where Lewington left his waste is a particular hot-spot for littering and fly-tipping, and we urge anyone who witnesses this behaviour to report it to the council so that we can take action against the perpetrators.”
