WE turn the clock back more than a century for this terrific picture of Churchgate in Bolton town centre. We know the picture was taken some time after 1909 because that is when the cross was erected, but it is well before the age of the car, and the horse and carriage were clearly in vogue, as was the bicycle. Their use may have changed, but impressively, many of the buildings remain.
