A MAN thrown out of a Blackburn town centre pub became abusive and threatening towards the bouncers and members of the public who tried to calm him down.

Blackburn magistrates heard CCTV showed Daniel Luke Riley hitting one man and then throwing punches at others who were trying to calm him down.

Riley, 27, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to using threatening behaviour outside the Old Vic pub. He was made subject to a community order with 40 hours unpaid work and ordered to pay £85 costs and £85 victim surcharge.

Catherine Allan, prosecuting, said CCTV showed Riley, in the early hours of a Saturday morning, being abusive to door staff and members of the public.

"He appeared to hit an innocent member of the public and when other males tried to calm him down he threw punches at them," said Miss Allan. "At one stage he got into a taxi but then got out and continued to argue."

Jonathan Taylor, defending, said the CCTV showed Riley being ejected from the pub and the bouncers were fairly heavy handed.

"He was remonstrating with them when members of the public approached from behind," said Mr Taylor. "He accepts his behaviour was far from exemplary and he should have shown more restraint."
