AN application to convert a terraced stone cottage to a new retail unit has been approved despite parking concerns.
However, conditions were added to the change of use application for a dwelling in Belmont Road.
Astley Bridge councillor Paul Wild told the planning committee that parking is already a problem in the area.
The property is located opposite the former Three Pigeons pub which has planning permission for a bar, restaurant and apartments.
Cllr Wild said once completed, this will be a "further pressure point" for parking demand.
Fellow ward councillor John Walsh suggested adding a condition to ensure that any construction uses materials which are "sympathetic" to the area and proposed tightening a condition on operating hours.
The application was approved by the committee subject to these additional conditions.
Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Wild said he was satisfied with the decision.
He said: "It's a busy area and I just feel any extra retailers going into the area is going to impact on the parking. But having said that, I don't want to see any empty houses."
