A PENSIONER has been taken to hospital following a collision with a car.

Police were called to the incident involving a Toyota car and female pensioner on Glen View Road, Burnley, at around 8.15pm on Wednesday.

The 89-year-old suffered a broken leg and spinal fractures and was taken to Royal Preston Hospital. She remains in serious condition.

The female driver of the Toyota is not thought to have sustained any injuries as a result of the collision. No arrests have been made.

A police spokesperson said: "We were called at 8.17pm to reports of a collision between a car and a pedestrian.

"An 89-year-old has serious leg injuries that are thought to be life-altering, and has been taken to hospital. Our thoughts are with the lady and her family at this time."

Police closed the road to traffic and asked drivers in the immediate area to travel with care.

It has since been reopened and an investigation into the collision has been launched.
