THE season of goodwill was very much alive in Bolton yesterday at the Mayor's annual Christmas Fair.

More than 30 charities, including the Mayor's Appeal, were selling items, running raffles and tombolas and spreading the festival spirit in the Albert Halls.

The charities attending the fair included Baby Basics, who give Moses basket hampers containing items for newborns to vulnerable women in the community, and a solar light appeal By Holy Trinity, St Elizabeth's and St Catherine's churches in Horwich, to bring lights to families in their partner parishes in Namibia and help children's opportunities.

Also present were Bolton Boy's Brigade, Back Up North West, Samaritans, Justicia Fair Trade Shop and others.

The Mayor of Bolton, Councillor Elaine Sherrington, said: "We do this every year and all the money the charities make goes to them.

"It is very important to me because this is a big fundraiser for The Mayor's Appeal and some very good and essential charities here in Bolton.

"The fair is also getting people in the Christmas spirit."
