A BUSINESS which failed to account for its waste has been fined for breaching its legal responsibilities.

VIP Auto Centre Ltd of Deane Road was found guilty of a duty of care offence at Bolton Magistrates Court.

Council enforcement officers visited the business in March to inspect waste transfers notes, but staff were unable to provide the necessary paperwork.

The notes provide legal evidence of proper waste disposal and include the license information of the carrier taking the items away. Businesses are required by law to keep notes for two years.

After failing to produce the waste transfer notes during a subsequent enforcement visit, the business was issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice, which was not paid.

The court ordered the company to pay a £400 fine, £405 in costs and a £40 victim surcharge.

Bolton Council’s executive cabinet member for environmental services, Cllr Nick Peel, said: “There is no excuse for business owners to ignore their responsibilities when it comes to disposing of rubbish properly.”
