SHADOW Chief Secretary to the Treasury Peter Dowd was on the doorsteps in Horwich this week with local Labour candidate Julie Hilling to speak to voters about their concerns following the recent Budget.

Mr Dowd said “It was great to be out on the doorstep with Julie. It was clear from conversations that local people aren’t feeling the Tory Government budget claim that the ‘era of austerity is over’. The fact is there is no end to austerity and today’s visit reaffirmed that the Tory claim is just yet another broken promise.”

“Eight years of destructive austerity has damaged our economy, damaged people’s wages and damaged vital services. There was nothing in the Budget to repair the damage to schools, the police and Council services, such as those in Bolton, which are so desperately needed.”

Labour's candidate Julie Hilling said, "People across Bolton West know the Tories have failed on growth, on public services and on keeping people safe, and yet Chris Green obediently knuckles under when the Tory whips tell him to vote against the interests our community."
