HOUSES in Bankfield Street, Ringley, were familiar with the sight of the huge cooling towers of Kearsley Power Station rising above them, but in 1978 residents also had to put up with masses of scaffolding – erected to protect the properties while a high tension cable was laid from Kearsley to Bolton.
