A DEDICATED charity volunteer has been recognised at a national ceremony for his tireless efforts.

Peter James-Robinson, 70, of Salisbury Road, Radcliffe, made it to the final of the Amplifon Awards for Brave Britons.

Despite having experienced many serious medical problems and being wheelchair bound, Mr James Robinson goes out in all weathers collecting for charity.

The former HGV driver and Butlins Skegness Redcoat is a familiar sight to shoppers in Burt, Prestwich and Radcliffe as he has been collecting for almost 20 years.

He was nominated in the Against All Odds category of the awards. This category was for members of the public who have overcome adversity to take on an exceptional challenge.

The father of four and grandfather of seven was certainly a worthy entrant after experiencing a catalogue of difficulties.

He has had three brain tumours, a collapsed lung, hydrocephalus, septicemia, pneumonia, meningitis and is paralysed down his left side.

But despite this he has collected thousands of pounds for charities including Marie Curie, Macmillan, Help the Heroes, Tickled Pink, Samaritans and British Legion.

Mr James-Robinson, who is a Radcliffe Carnival ambassador, has also completed 15 wheelchair marathons.

His dedication to the community has seen him preside over Tottington & Bury West Rotary Club, and Radcliffe Rotary Club. He is currently a member of Horwich Rotary Club and a district governor nominee for 1285 district.

Although he did not win the overall award, Mr James Robinson said he was delighted to be nominated and he enjoyed attending the London ceremony.

Proud daughter Emily James-Robinson, (26), said: “He’s always been a great dad and has always put everyone else before himself. He’s an inspiration.”
