LACE up your trainers and enjoy a run in one of Bolton’s most picturesque beauty spots.

North Bolton Runners, a free and friendly running club for people of all ages and abilities, is staging the Jumbles 5km on Saturday to raise funds for the group.

The run is open to everyone of all ages and also doubles up as a celebration for its members who have got up from their settee and got out to explore the borough’s beautiful surroundings.

Co-founder of the group, Chris Reddy said: “Everyone can get involved. Entry is £6 and all money raised goes to the club. It will be used to train volunteers to become run leaders and in First Aid and put them on other courses.

“It will also raise money to buy head torches for the winter runs and other equipment.”

The club was set up in June of this year for people of all ages and abilities to experience the fun and social aspect of running, as well as reaping the health benefits.

Since then its membership has grown with some taking part in the couch to 5km programme.

Chris, who lives in Egerton, said: “We set up this group as a friendly and free club. We have had people who have never run before joining and really enjoying it and others who want to run but don’t want to run alone.

“It is growing, our youngest member is nine-years-old and we have people in their sixties. All we ask is children under-16 be accompanied by an adult.”

The Jumbles 5km starts at 10am at the sailing club, which has loaned its facilities for free. And in the evening runners can celebrate at The Crofters and try their luck in a raffle which includes a spa day and meal, cash prizes, sessions with a personal trainer and many more.

Chris said: “Local businesses have been really supportive for the social in the evening.”

Following the run the next free Couch 5km for beginners will start on October 29.
