Angela Price won the coveted Miss Lancashire Evening Telegraph title back in May 1978.

Angela, then 21, said: “I just thought I’d give it a go. I’ve never been in for anything like this before but I’ve enjoyed it.”

She was chosen from 12 finalists to attend an evening at the Cavendish Club and it was hosted by Radio One star Ed Stewart.

Angela won a week’s holiday for two, worth £250 at the Hotel Atlas in Malta donated by M V Holidays, London and £50 spending money and a bottle of champagne donated by the Cavendish Club. She took her mum Doris Price with her.

Second prizewinner was 19-year-old Dorothy Kafel, of Whalley Road, Clayton-le-Moors.

She was a student nurse at Blackburn Royal Infirmary and won a ladies' Omega watch worth £100, donated by Humberstones of Blackburn, and £25 cash. Dorothy, too, had never entered a beauty contest before.

Third place was Janet Corfield, a housewife, of Heyes Close, Livesey.

She won a deluxe dinner for two and visit to Trader Jack’s Nightclub plus overnight accommodation and breakfast at the Imperial Hotel, Blackpool, and £10.
