FOUR people were arrested after Blackburn Rovers hosted Leeds United in Saturday's lunchtime Championship clash.

Police say they were generally satisfied with a large-scale operation to prevent any trouble between suppoters of the two Roses rivals.

Two Rovers fans and two Leeds supporters were detained by officers on suspicion of public order offences as a result of the fixture, which Rovers won 2-1.

Lancashire Telegraph:

Chief Insp John Bullas, the match commander, said: "Around 18,000 people attended the game and the vast majority were well-behaved.

"There were only a minority of supporters who let themselves down and they were arrested."

Extra police were drafted in for the game and a major traffic plan was instigated to bring the majority of away fans in via coaches.

An estimated 7,600 visiting supporters descended on East Lancashire.

CCTV was also deployed at Ewood to defuse any potential flashpoints before they developed.
